We hope to see our fabulous members and friends on Sunday, October 5, for our annual meeting. This year, we’re heading to nearby Stewart (just 11 miles from Athens) for hikes at the Lois Busch Winner Nature Preserve and a program and potluck (and more!) at the Federal Valley Resource Center (8225 St. Rt. 329).
This year’s fun includes:
- Optional guided hikes in Winner Woods, a peaceful, 106-acre preserve in Stewart that opened just last fall. Out-and-back, 1.1-mile hikes will begin at the preserve’s trailhead near the Stewart cemetery, at 3 pm and 3:30 pm.
- The Federal Valley Resource Center in Stewart will be open starting at 3:30 pm.
- Mingle with board members, check out a silent auction (make bids!), and find out about some of our latest activities.
- At 4:30 pm, our program begins, with comments from board member Brian Blair about the new Joy Valley Nature Preserve.
- Guest speaker Roxanne Groff, new board member at the nearby Tablertown People of Color Museum, will talk about the museum and history of the area.
- Enjoy a potluck meal, too, and feel free to bring a dish if you like. We’ll provide beverages (lemonade, tea, and water).
There’s limited parking at the trailhead and cemetery. Feel free to park at the Federal Valley Resource Center’s parking lot and we’ll have a shuttle van take you to the trailhead. Or you can choose to walk up the hill to the trailhead.
Directions to the Preserve are posted here on the Winner Woods webpage.
