From volunteer coordinator Delaney Gibbs: Join us this weekend at Canaan Preserve to help us maintain the diverse and lovely flora growing along the brand-new John Knouse Trail! Volunteers will meet at the Horseman’s Area (directions below) on Sunday, May 8, at 11 am and will get to work pulling up the invasive garlic mustard that is threatening our native plants. We will be working until around 3 pm but you are welcome to leave whenever you need to.
The trail will likely be a little muddy so we recommend wearing sturdy hiking boots.
Note: There will probably be some folks parking their horse trailers in the same lot so please try to park in a way that leaves ample room for them.
Directions to Horseman’s Area Parking Lot
Take Strouds Run Road through Strouds Run State Park, going past the campgrounds and beach turnoffs. About a mile after the turnoff for the beach, you’ll come to a fork in the road. Keep right and continue for another 2-ish miles. You will then come to a T in the road with a brown sign that says “Horseman’s Area.” Take a right here and follow the road to the parking area.
