Please join us Sunday, April 30, at 1 pm for an opening celebration for the Lindy Roosenburg Preserve, Athens Conservancy’s newest nature preserve. This exceptional 71-acre property just north of Athens showcases mature forests, scenic rock formations, and an abundance of wildflowers and wildlife. The land was purchased last year in memory of Selinde Roosenburg, a local young woman and aspiring wildland firefighter, through a fund generously established by her family.
Lindy’s Preserve is a scenic, well-maintained tract of land, with 1.5 miles of trails that meander through a peaceful forest.
The April 30 event will include a ribbon-cutting honoring Selinde, guided walks along the trails, historical information and stories about the land, refreshments, and more. Fiddler Mark Barsamian and mandolinist Zeke Hutchison will help celebrate the opening with some traditional folk tunes. The two are the “portable” members of the band Trillium.
Please note:
- There will be no parking at the preserve itself on event day; see below for directions and parking details
- For this opening event only, we ask that you leave your dogs at home
- The short path leading from the shuttle drop-off area to the celebration spot is fairly steep
- We are planning to host the event RAIN or SHINE. So if it’s drizzly on Sunday, bring a rain jacket or umbrella. There is no shelterhouse at this natural preserve.
