Mission

Athens Conservancy works locally to preserve wild and scenic places and promote healthy, resilient ecosystems. These efforts safeguard water quality, support native biodiversity, and protect mature forests, which are critical to counteract the cause of climate change.

Vision

We envision a future in which southeast Ohio’s protected lands and diverse habitats connect people with nature for recreation, inspiration, education, and research. We strive to engage and enrich our community of explorers, supporters, volunteers, and allies.

Our logo is the maidenhair fern, Adiantum pedatum, one of the most beautiful native plants. It inhabits moist woodlands and is abundant in the Bluebell and Poston Preserves along the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway. The genus name comes from the Greek for “not wetting”, because water simply beads up and runs off the fronds.
