Trails at Vinton Furnace Experimental Forest

Trails at the forest are generally short. All the trails listed below, except for the Beard Cemetery Trail, radiate out from the same point. There is also an old railroad grade that may be followed.

Named after a "wolf oak," or a large open-grown white oak that is now embedded within forest (these have a distinctive shape as opposed to forest-grown trees, being shorter, branched lower, with greater branch spread)

Directions to Vinton Furnace Experimental Forest

To reach Vinton Furnace Experimental Forest, take OH-32 west from US-33 about 20 miles to OH-324. Turn right and go 2.1 miles to Experimental Forest Road on the right (there is a sign there). Turn right and go about 3.2 miles to one of three camp areas (you will have passed another one, on the left, on the way in). Turning right just past the camp area will take you a short distance to a gate, from which most of the trails can be accessed.
