Become a Nature Sleuth
Over 1,000 different species have been observed and documented – by people just like you – in our nature preserves. By using iNaturalist, you too can help explore the trees, shrubs, flowers, ferns, mushrooms, lichens, mosses, insects, spiders, salamanders, birds and mammals that call these preserves their home!
iNaturalist is a citizen science initiative that puts nature at your fingertips. With a simple phone app (available for Android or Apple), you can take pictures of any plant or animal you see and upload your observation. If you know what species it is, you can add that info. If not, you can click for identification suggestions based on photos and input from other users.

Athens Conservancy has a dedicated iNaturalist page for all our preserves. Each preserve has its own page, too. Your observations will automatically be included in our preserve pages, making it a breeze to track and compare what you observe with other users.

Birdwatchers can also use the Merlin app to help identify and eBird to record bird species you see or hear.
We do ask that all citizen scientists refrain from collection of specimens and undue disturbance to wildlife and habitats.
