Meet Colin Robbins, conservation specialist

Colin Robbins has joined Athens Conservancy as its new conservation specialist, effective Jan. 14. The new position focuses on expanding the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness to protect and conserve local, open space land with conservation easements and direct land acquisition. Colin will work closely with the community, individual landowners, and Athens Conservancy’s board, staff, and volunteers.

“Adding Colin to our team at Athens Conservancy will boost our ability to protect land, work with local landowners, and bring our growing nonprofit organization to the next level of sustainability and service to the community,” says Brian Blair, vice president of the board of directors.

Colin comes to Athens Conservancy from the Walloon Lake Association and Conservancy in Michigan, where he worked on acquisitions, monitoring, stewardship, and GIS mapping. He has a master’s degree in environmental sustainability, with a focus on natural resources conservation and management from Indiana University, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan.

“I look forward to exploring the beautiful and rugged terrain that defines the Athens area,” he says. “And I’m really excited to engage with the passionate landowners of southeastern Ohio in conserving their land for future generations to enjoy. I am truly thrilled to be a part of the Athens Conservancy team and to serve this outstanding community.”

When not tackling conservation issues, Colin – who recently relocated to Athens — can often be found outside running and training for his next race, biking, and hiking.
