Hiking Trails

BENCAD Trail
BENCAD stands for BuckEye - North Country - American Discovery Trail. The Buckeye Trail is a long-distance Ohio trail that circles around the state. The North Country Trail is a National Scenic Trail extending from New York to North Dakota. The American Discovery Trail is a long-distance multimodal trail extending from coast to coast. The three are combined in much of our area.

Wildcat Hollow Trail
The Wildcat Hollow Trail is on the Wayne National Forest, north of Burr Oak State Park. It is 15 miles long, with a 5-mile hiking option. There are no designated campsites, but camping is allowed on the Wayne.

Zaleski Backpacking Trail
The Zaleski Backpacking Trail is a 23.5-mile loop trail in the Zaleski State Forest, with shorter loop options, and with three backpacking campsites.

Strouds Run Trails
This page includes both the Strouds Run hiking trails and also the Athens Trail system. There is a single backpacking campsite on the Blair Preserve, adjacent to the state park.

Burr Oak Trails
The BENCAD Trail passes through Burr Oak, with 12 miles within the park, but the park also offers other trails, including a 22-mile backpacking loop. There are four designated campgrounds that are accessible to the trails.

Lake Hope Trails
Lake Hope State Park has a well-developed trail system. There are no backpacking campsites within the park, but there is an extensive campground, and the trails connect with the Zaleski Backpacking Trail, above.
