Athens Conservancy’s board of directors is a multi-talented, engaged, experienced, and thoroughly brilliant group! We want you to get to know them, too.
Meet Andrea Miller, who joined the board in 2022. Andrea grew up on her great grandmother’s farm in southeast Ohio, and is the sustainable forestry program manager at Rural Action.
Why is spending time outdoors important to you?
Spending time outdoors is important because I love plants, mushrooms, fresh air, insects, and birds. If I don’t spend time outside regularly, I might miss something really special.
What’s your perfect outdoors-kind-of-day?
Kayaking, hiking, finding mushrooms, and seeing a rare plant blooming.
Advice for someone new to exploring nature?
Just get outside! You don’t need super special clothing or gear. Just a comfortable pair of boots with good tread. …And don’t forget to check yourself for ticks afterwards.
Cat or dog person?
Both! I have a cat (Kiwi) and a dog (Milkweed)
Hidden gem in southeast Ohio?
Any backroad with rare plants growing roadside 🙂
Why is protecting land around us so important?
To protect biodiversity, wildlife, habitat, and ecosystems. If it’s not protected, it will not remain intact due to development and or extractive industry pressures.
