Spring is in the air, and precious wildflowers are popping up along the forest trails! Please join us for our popular, annual Wildflower Walk at 2 pm, Saturday, April 13.
Led by our wildflower enthusiasts, the walk starts at the Beaumont-Salina Trailhead near The Plains. We’ll walk along the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway, where we will be surrounded on both sides by plentiful spring wildflowers in full bloom in our Bluebell Preserve. We’ll be keeping an eye out for three species of trilliums, Virginia bluebells, blue-eyed Mary, several species of violets, Dutchman’s breeches, squirrel corn, woodland phlox, and more.
After walking for about a mile or so, we’ll turn around and return to the parking area … though walkers are welcome to continue along the bikeway on their own. Everyone is welcome! We’ll have a sign-in table by the parking area, and the event is free. If you have questions, send an email to dawn@athensconservancy.org. We hope to see you there!
Directions to the Beaumont-Salina Trailhead: From Route 33 take The Plains exit (rt. 682). From the exit, do not turn toward The Plains but turn the opposite direction (i.e. if you are coming from Athens you will turn right onto 682. The first intersection just before the river is Hamley Run Rd. Turn left, go under the highway, and you will see the parking area on the right where Lemaster Road dead-ends into Hamley. (if you Google “Beaumont-Salina Trailhead” you will see a map…)
