Lake Logan State Park is located just outside Logan, Ohio. It is considered generally to be part of the Hocking Hills complex of public land, and is administered by that park district, but it does not feature the spectacular rock formations characteristic of so much of the area. The purpose of this park is principally the lake, with the recreational offerings offered by the lake. There are one swimming area, two boat ramps, four fishing piers (one specifically accessible), two winter sledding areas, and a half-dozen picnic areas. Hunting is allowed in generally the western half of the park.
Park visitors may often wonder why the spectacular geologic features present in the rest of the Hocking Hills are absent from this park. The answer is simple: stratigraphically, the blackhand sandstone here lies BELOW the level of the lake. In other words, the essential rock strata are still underground here, and will be exposed some day, many thousands of years in the future. |
