11,171 acres in Guyan and Harrison Townships, and also in Mason and Windsor Townships, Lawrence County. This is the state's fifth-largest wildlife area, and is close to the Wayne National Forest, Ironton District. This area was extensively stripmined in the past, and is today still only about two-thirds forest. There is no development in this area except for public roadways. |
To reach this area, take US-33 18.2 miles south from US-50 on the south side of Athens to OH-7. Take the exit ramp to go west/south on OH-7. Take OH-7 25.3 miles south through Cheshire and Gallipolis to OH-218. Turn right on OH-218 and go 8.6 miles to OH-790. Turn right on OH-790. You will pass into and out of the wildlife area several times from 1.6 to 5.3 miles. You can reach the interior via a network of county roads, including Sandersville Road, County Road 178, and Scottown-Lecta Road, County Road 37 (turn left on either). |
