Public Access Site
This facility has almost no signage. It is located not on the Ohio River, where the locks and dam area somewhat downstream, but on the Hocking River just north of Coolville, Ohio, just north of US-50. There are picnic facilities and a boat ramp. This facility is in the uppermost end of the Belleville Dam pool, so can accommodate a wide variety of water vessels, with easy motorboat access to the Ohio River. It's a great take-out point for a Hocking River downriver float by kayak or canoe. This is also a suitable site for parking for horse trailers using the nearby Athens-Belpre Rail-Trail (about 1/2 mile north on Frost Road).
Directions:
From Athens, from the intersection of US-50/OH-32 with US-33 just south of East State Street, go 19.2 miles to Ohio State Route 7. Merge with OH-7 continuing east on US-50 and go another 1.7 miles. Just after crossing the Hocking River, turn left on County Road 58, Frost Road. Go two-tenths of a mile and turn left into the parking lot.GPS for parking lot: 39.2306, -81.7948
