We’re absolutely delighted to share the news that local artist Jay Hostetler and his wife Cherri will be donating a portion of sales from their studio to support our work at Athens Conservancy. After a career in the guitar-crafting industry, Jay has returned to his love of woodworking, using local found wood from the forests around Athens. He is known for crafting wooden trees of all sizes and shapes, and says, “The satisfaction that comes from transforming a piece of wood into a tactile and visual object is hard to describe. Whether it’s small trees or turning other one-of-a-kind pieces, the magic and wonder of sculpted designs emerging from various woods is never lost on me.”
Jay is very passionate about woodworking and is dedicated to the maintenance and preservation of the lands and trees and that sustain his craft. The Hostetlers have agreed to support the important work of protecting the local the environment by donating 5% of all sales to the Athens Conservancy.
Thank you to Jay and Cherri! For more information about the beautiful and unique wooden trees, see the studio website here.
And here is what Jay posted on Instagram (@hostetlerwoodstudio)
You may have noticed that several of the trees I turn are from invasive species located in Southeastern Ohio. Invasive species, land overuse, and land misuse are a few of the issues that make it rough for our forested lands to thrive. The Athens Conservancy is a nonprofit land trust set up to create ecosystems that support native biodiversity. Through long range land management Athens Conservancy is working to make forests healthy and resilient. If you live or work in the Athens area, I encourage you to support their work and if you live elsewhere, please seek out a land trust in your area, our forests and lands needs all our help. 5% of all sales at Hostetler Wood Studio goes to sustain the important work of The Athens Conservancy.
