This year’s Groundhog Hike may have been delayed a week due to an ice storm, but the Feb. 13 event was loads of winter fun! Familiar faces and new friends enjoyed snacks, coffee, hot chocolate and a warm bonfire before heading out on the hiking trails. This year’s 19th annual event, presented in honor of founder and friend John Knouse, was hosted by Athens Conservancy and Friends of Strouds Run.
At least 45 cheerful hikers joined our volunteer guides for several treks through the beautiful winter woods, with a blue sky above and just a little mud underfoot. Many thanks go to our volunteers, trail guides, fire-builder, sign-hanger, and raffle-prize donor Cabela’s.
Most of all, thank you to all who joined us for the event. Feel free to contact us with feedback and ideas for future hikes or other events. We want to hear from you!
